Concrete Barn Floors and Pole Building Slabs

A dirt or gravel floor turns to mud, holds moisture and is hard to keep clean. A concrete floor makes a barn, pole building or shop usable year round, whether it holds equipment, a workshop, storage or animals.

We farm ourselves, so we know what a barn floor has to take: tractors, trailers, wash-down and Michigan frost. We build the slab for the load it will carry.

Built for Heavy Use

  • Slabs for new pole buildings or floors in existing barns
  • Thickness and reinforcement matched to equipment weight
  • Rebar grid set on supports before the pour
  • Compacted base and grading for drainage
  • Slope toward doors or drains for wash-down areas
  • Control joints laid out for large open spans
  • Aprons at overhead doors

From Dirt to Concrete

01

Site Visit

We look at the building, the doors, what will be parked or stored, and where water needs to go.

02

Grade and Base

The floor area is graded and a compacted base is built up to the right height.

03

Reinforce

Rebar or mesh is laid out and supported so it ends up inside the slab where it does its job.

04

Pour and Joint

Concrete is placed, finished and cut into panels to control cracking across the big span.

Common Questions

How thick should a barn floor be?

It depends on what it carries. A floor for storage and light vehicles can be thinner than one for loaded tractors and trailers. We size the thickness and reinforcement after we know how you will use the building.

Can you pour a floor in a barn that is already built?

Yes. We work around the posts and through the doors, and set the floor height to match your door openings.

Do you pour the slab before the pole building goes up?

We can do either. Some owners want the slab first, others after the building is closed in. We will work with your builder on the timing.

Areas We Serve

We also work throughout Lansing, Haslett, Williamston, Mason, Ingham, Livingston and Washtenaw counties.
